Area boarding facilities are reporting outbreaks of Canine Upper Respiratory Disease. This is typically caused by a combination of respiratory viruses and bacteria but does include the possibility of Kennel Cough and Canine Influenza.

We recommend limiting unnecessary contact with dogs in the neighborhood if at all possible during the upcoming weeks.

All the best, The team at AMC

New Furry Baby? We Can Help!

Do you have a new puppy or kitten? Congratulations!

A new furry friend is always cause for celebration. Make sure your new family member starts off on the right paw with these helpful pet care reminders:

A wellness visit for your new puppy or kitten is extremely important as it helps catch common treatable problems before they develop into larger medical issues. At your puppy or kitten’s first exam, your AMC Cascades veterinarian will also discuss other critical care points like proper nutrition, training and behavior to help your pet grow into a healthy, well-adjusted member of the family.

Vaccinations and fecal exams are especially important for young puppies and kittens who do not have full immunity from many serious infectious diseases and can be extremely susceptible to intestinal parasites. It’s critical to ensure your puppy or kitten has a complete series of combo vaccinations to keep him or her protected. Also, in our area of the country, heavy rains can lead to an increase is gastrointestinal parasites, many of which can be transmitted to humans.  Annual fecal exams help our medical team identify these nasty bugs and provide treatment keeping both your pets and you safe.

Spaying or neutering your pet has health benefits, in addition to helping with pet overpopulation. Spaying your puppy or kitten before her first heat offers the best protection from uterine infections and breast tumors. Neutering your male pet helps prevent testicular cancer and certain prostate problems.

A microchip provides secure, reliable and permanent identification, which greatly increases the likelihood that your pet, if lost, will be returned home to you.

Fleas, ticks and heartworm-carrying mosquitoes are out in full force, especially in our hot summer weather. We can help you choose the best parasite preventions for your pet.

We can’t wait to meet your new pet! Give us a call at (571) 434-0250 to scheduled your new puppy or kitten’s first appointment.
