Area boarding facilities are reporting outbreaks of Canine Upper Respiratory Disease. This is typically caused by a combination of respiratory viruses and bacteria but does include the possibility of Kennel Cough and Canine Influenza.

We recommend limiting unnecessary contact with dogs in the neighborhood if at all possible during the upcoming weeks.

All the best, The team at AMC

Travel Prep For Pets

If your summer getaway plans include your pet, here are some tips to make it safer and more fun for you both:

  • As soon as your travel plans are set, schedule a visit with us to see that your pet’s vaccines are up to date. Also check that your pet’s microchip registration and ID tags are updated.
  • If you’re taking your pet on the road or in the air, health and/or travel certificates from an accredited veterinarian may be required. Our veterinarians can issue those and ensure your pet is healthy enough to travel.
  • Never allow your pet to sit in the front seat even if they’re restrained and the front seat is equipped with airbags. Airbags are just as dangerous to animals as they are to small children. Pets should be secured in a carrier or with a seatbelt harness.
  • We know dogs enjoy it, but resist the urge to let them stick their heads out of the window of a moving vehicle—they could be injured by flying debris. Pets should never ride in the back of an open-bed pick-up, even if they’re tethered.
  • Make frequent stops if you’re driving. At least every 3-4 hours is best so pets can relieve themselves and stretch their legs.
  • Find a 24-hour emergency clinic in your destination. If your pet becomes sick or injured, you’ll be prepared.

If we can answer any questions or help prepare your pet for travel, don’t hesitate to give us a call at 571-434-0250.
