Owner/Veterinarian
Dr. DeAnna Mitchell is the owner and managing veterinarian of Animal Medical Center of Cascades. With over 31 years of experience she truly enjoys meeting new friends and families, watching their pets grow and evolve as a part of the family, and helping them strengthen their bond with health and happiness.
Dr. Mitchell grew up on a horse farm in rural Nebraska and experienced the joy of the human animal bond as she was daily interacting with a variety of animals. She attended University of Nebraska for 3 years before being accepted to Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Eager to travel she spent 5 years on active duty with the military and was fortunate to have been able to provide care for many service members’ pets, countless Military Working Dogs, numerous US Customs Canines and a wonderful group of dogs in the Secret Service K9 Unit. Dr. Mitchell was assigned as President Clinton’s Veterinarian caring for Socks the White House Cat… whom she believes was a crazy dog trapped in a happy cat’s body. LTC Mitchell retired after 24 years of combined active and reserve duty with the US Veterinary Corps.
Following a personal dream Dr. Mitchell traveled to Africa with CVM and spent two months with a veterinary missionary family as they provided assistance to the nomadic Maasai tribes of Kenya and Tanzania. Before returning home she climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and white water rafted the Zambezi River…why not!
Finally Dr. Mitchell spent a year working with the Animal Emergency Clinic in Leesburg to gain additional knowledge and experience before opening the Animal Medical Center in 2000. Dr. Mitchell enjoys challenging medical cases, ultrasound, surgery and caring for what she fondly refers to as her group of crunchy old cats and dogs. After dealing with a serious case of Lyme Disease herself, Dr. Mitchell finds it very satisfying to know that she can help those with painful joints find relief and to help them live a comfortable and happy life. Dr. Mitchell shares her life with her wonderful daughter, two crazy dogs and four happy cats!
